Kids in the Kitchen

As part of the international Kids in the Kitchen project, the Junior League of Flint provides nutritional education and activities to children, helping them adopt healthy nutritional habits.

We have been fortunate to work with the Marti Austin Kids Classic held at the Flint Cultural Center. JLF hosts a table for kids and parents to provide tips and fun activities related to making healthy choices.

The "Kids Crim" or “mini-Crim” is for youth ages 0-14. Each participating child receives a t-shirt, bib, goody bag and finisher medal. Children can participate in the Diaper Dash, Toddler Trot, Quarter Mile, Half Mile, or One Mile race. The day includes fun activities for the entire family centered on health and fitness!

History of Kids in the Kitchen

In 2006, the Association of Junior Leagues International and Junior Leagues from across four countries initiated an international grass-roots movement called Junior League’s Kids in the Kitchen, designed to help communities address the urgent issues surrounding childhood obesity and poor nutrition.

This League-wide initiative not only addresses a growing problem facing today’s children, but also honors the Junior League’s long heritage of impact on family nutrition over the past 105 years.
